Xiaomi had its Mi Max and Mi Note line-up since quite some time now. And both were unique in their own segments. But Xiaomi has now announced that we won’t see any successor for the Xiaomi Mi Max and Mi Note Series.

Today, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun went on Weibo and shed some light on their product line strategy for the Mi and Redmi Series. He confirmed that the Mi brand-name will be continuing to focus on high-performance models. These high-performance models include the Mi Series (Mi 8, Mi 9, etc.), Mi Mix Series – which focuses on new innovations and implements them on smartphones and the upcoming CC Series – which is focused on being the smartphone for youth around the world.

On the flip side, Redmi is focused on bringing cost-effective, quality devices to the masses through the e-commerce market. Six different product lines are included under this Redmi branding.

Xiaomi Mi Max. Mi Note. No successor

Xiaomi’s Mi Max and Mi Note were unique in their own ways. There was almost no other device which was like the Mi Max in the last couple of years. But yes, I do get the point that there might not be a huge demand for such devices as it was for a very niche market. Also, the current generation of smartphone are already huge enough and does almost everything what Mi Max did for them, if not more.

The Mi Note Series included the devices in Xiaomi’s upper midrange. But it looks like that gap is already filled by the Redmi K20 Line-up which will be releasing in India within a few weeks.

Overall, this move seems to be planned well ahead of the time. Also, I don’t think not having a successor to this device would make much of a difference.
